Flu shot is a joke!

Well last Friday night Merci came down with a high fever and really soar throat. I had 2 Tastefully Sipmle parties the next day. My mom had to take her to the doctors for a strep test. It was positive. And of course that same weekend my cousins Riley (5) and Gavin (3) came into town for a spontaneous visit, they live in Philadelphia. We hardly get to see them and it would hae been fun for the kids to play together. They all ended up being sick too. So come Monday Merci was much better and not contagious since she was on antibiotics. Well yesturday she came home from school with a note saying how bad she was that day..which happened Friday too. Poor kid is sick and I didn't even know it. So last night she comes in our room at 1 AM telling us how she has to puke. I am so tired I have no clue what is going on. She starts puking all over our floor...I got up really quick!! Thank God that Josh lost his sense of smell (comes in handy sometimes!). So he cleaned it all up while I was in the bathromm almost vomitting myself. I have a very bad gag reflex,I mean BAD! So we gether all cleaned up and she is sleeping on our floor. She got sick again at 5:30 making it to the bathroom this time. I think she has the flu...but wait..she got a flu shot this year, and she has been on antibiotics since Saturday. She now has a fever and hasn't eaten all day. Keep her in your prayers and skip the flu shot, they don't work!!

They always tell you flu shots only work SOME of the time.

Awwwww, poor girl! You guys are in our prayers. I know you can't give Merci a kiss for me but will you blow her one and say it's from me LOL=).

The true flu is actually a respiratory virus. Not the puke-type flu. So, it will not ward off the GI flu. Just a little of the nurse in me coming out!

Oh, and antibiotics are prescribed for bacterial illness, a virus will run it's course and be gone without antibiotics. My son had Fifth's Disease last spring/summer. It lasted what seemed forever. I freaked out, he had low grade fever, and started breaking out with this rash like a heat rash on his knees/hands, then all of his legs were covered, and his trunk, his hands, his feet, even this soles. It got worse to the point his rash became just completely red/purplish skin. After an inaccurate diagnosis by 2 doctors in our local urgent care, my doctor(NP) looked in one of her books, and figured out it was Fifths disease. No treatment, just watch it get worse, then eventually go away. Just saying...the flu is the same way. They may look so terribly ill, be so miserable, but you have to let it run it's course. Just give them plenty of fluids, pedialytes, they make pedialyte pops, and popscicles too! Hope she gets better soon.

Fifths Disease is a (strange I know) parvovirus, not contracted from dogs, but other children, very contagious, but they said will only affect 50% of those they come into contact with. It's like chicken pox, in that, you do not know you have it until the contagious period lapses, and THEN you see the rash. I hated that idea, since Leah was a new baby, maybe 5 or 6 weeks old when he got it. He had just gotten over RSV too a few weeks before she was born. He had a nebulizer I had to practically pin him down to make him inhale the albuterol to make the RSV resolve. I hated it, too. He, ironically, has had everything the girls NEVER came down with. I think Fifths Disease is also something that stays with them, as far as, in the future, if exposed to too much sun, the rash will faintly re-appear. I sure hope it isn't true, but if so, isn't that terrible???

There are so many weird diseases out there.

Ethan had to be on a nebulizer too, he was only about 6 months old and was having bad chest colds. He had a little dino mask, but he hated it and screamed bloody murder when we had to pin him down. He hasn't had any problems since.

Well I hope your little guy doesn't have anymore rash problems.
