Hand in Hand

Working out and eating well go hand in hand, you really aren't going to see result in weight loss if you aren't doing some of both.

Ive been working out since last May, not consistently and not daily or even sometimes not weekly. Trying to get a bit more consistent. We will see how that goes. But eating good along with that is just as hard.

I had the opportunity to try new Healthy Choice Steaming Entres
I figured it be nice to have decent lunch/dinner to turn to if I just couldn't cook a healthy meal.
I am not generally a fan of frozen dinners, so having the opportunity to try this new variety, I was trying to be optimistic.

I got to try 2 meals...one had shrimp in it which I do not eat, so my husband got to enjoy that one!
Fora man who will not eat asparagus when I make it...tried the asparagus in this meal and ate it and semi liked it! He said it wasn't soggy and even complimented the texture of the shrimp. No limp shrimp here! But there was no way he was budging in trying the squash!
The Garlic Herb Shrimp gets a thumbs up from my husband!

I got to try the Portabella Parmesan Risotto.
Great flavor!
Definitely a lunch, as it didn't satisfy me for dinner...which they are supposed to be lunches anyway!

Overall Id say give em a try! Nice to keep in the freezer for those lazy non cooking days!

That time...

**CLOSED-Winner is Sarah**

We leave for vacation soon, so that means I am scouring the house and dollar sections for little toys and fun stuff to keep in the car to keep the kids busy on the7-8 hour drive. We don't have portable dvd players, and even though they are affordable we just don't want the kids to rely on TV in the car. I usually pack a basket that sits in between them and they keep each other entertained for the most part. We have had really great traveling in the car in the past, and I am very grateful. BUT it just means I have to work hard every year to find interesting stuff for them to do!

I was pretty excited to learn about My Living Stories App for the iphone or itouch, I knew this would be one new thing to add to the keep the kids busy in the car list! Along with all their favorite games that I already have downloaded, like water slide, hangman, kitty jump, doodle buddy, paper toss...the list goes on! As you see the iphone isn't just my toy!

My Living Stories ($1.99) provides some classic stories as well as some new stories in an animated way, so your youngster can read along with the storyteller or if you have the capabilities you can record your voice to tell the story, or you can play music only and let your kids tell the story.
Because I want this to be new to them on the drive, I haven't got the thumbs up from the kids yet, but I am definite I will! If anything it is like a mini movie, the story is animated, has music in the background and you turn the page as your ready. And let me just say, the little girl narrator has the cutest voice! I also like that you can play the music only so your child can tell the story. It can't be practicing reading if it is on the iPhone can it??? (Ethan is really sick of us pushing him to practice reading, so maybe this will trick him!) Oh, and if your iPhone or iTouch has the capabilities you can record your own voice to tell the story as well! AND I am super excited to actually have my kids hear the Princess and the Pea, because honestly I think they've never heard it yet....we refer to it, but it will be cool to hear the story!

So check out the link for My Living Stories and tell me which one you would like most in the comments, and You COULD WIN A $25 iTunes gift card!!!! Comment by this Friday July 30th 5PM

Some rules:
1.)You can enter to win on multiple blogs, but can only win one iTunes card form the My Living Stories sweepstakes
2.) Please enter only once per person on this blog

Thanks MomCentral!

Disclosure - I am participating in the My Living Stories program by Mom Central on behalf of Decode Entertainment. I received 3 free apps and a gift card as a thank you for my participation.

A great Treat!! For me and for YOU

I was pretty excited to hear that Breyers had new tasty treats on the market.
I was even more excited to get to try some for FREE and even extend that same opportunity to YOU!!!

Breyers SMOOTH and DREAMY bars and sandwiches are INCREDIBLE...well, the Chocolate Covered Strawberry bars I chose, anyway!! There were 2 types of bars and 3 types of sandwiches to choose from, they all looked super yummy! And the great thing is that no matter what choice you make they will be under 160 calories (each, of course)! Less calories means less time I have to run on that elliptical at the gym, and that makes for a big thumbs up! They have no artificial flavors or color either. Yeah for a more naturla product! Another thumbs up.

I really enjoyed this ice cream bar, the ice cream WAS seriously Smooth and Dreamy...I won't lie, I had 2 today;) The ice cream was SUPER creamy and for once I understood the name of a product! I am never very inclined to try ice cream treats that are half the fat or supposedly "better for you" because I am an ice cream LOVER...so why skimp on taste? I was super to surprised to find these ice cream bars were not skimpy on the flavor at all...they were delicious and satisfied my sweet tooth. Another thing I am super picky about is, artificial sweeteners...DO NOT LIKE THEM or the taste of them, and do not believe they are good for you, and was happy to know these were all natural.

Way to go Breyers you are still my absolute favorite ice cream brand!!!

If you'd like to try these yummy treats...I have 5 FREE product coupons to mail out...be the first 5 to comment and Ill contact you for your mailing info!!

You're Not The Boss Of Me...

You're Not The Boss Of Me...is the title of the book I am reading. I had a chance to review this book, and who can say no when they have kids and want to find the best ways to relate, discipline and encourage them?? I definitely won't. Especially when the front cover reads..."Brat-Proofing your 4-12 year old children." And when my kids act like brats daily...I definitly know I need some help!

Although I have not had the chance to get through the whole book...because those "brats" don't leave me any time to myself;) I have found so much useful input and already put some to practice.

I really liked how Ms Braun brought up the fact that kids don't have to be looking at you to hear you...half the time I fight with my kids to look me in the eye and after that fight you know they are really trying to act like they are looking at you but not necessarily paying any attention to you...so why not just cut out that step...they can and will hear and pay attention even with their eys not on you...and I do understand sometimes they do need to look at you, but not in every instance!

Also I like how she brings ways to try to compromise with our kids in certain instances...to honor your children's independence yet keeping your his/her safety in mind and your family rules intact.

I can't wait to get more into this book and implement some strategies that might work with my family. I don't think following any book to a T is good for families but taking from a number of books advice, and strategies that will fit into your families way of life and keep with your values.

So if you are looking for a good book to get some strategies ( come on we all need some new strategies over the Summer!) I would suggest looking into the book:
You're Not the Boss of Me- Brat Proofing your 4-12 year old child by Betsy Brown Braun

6 more days

The count is down to 6 more days of school...yikes...I have no time left...it is here...Summer break. My break is over!

I feel so sad and happy at the same time that my baby boy is going to be done with Kindergarten.

Kids sound so young and little when you tell people "My son is in Kindergarten" But when you have to say 1st grade, that just doesn't sound so little and young anymore=( They sound so grown up.

Like I've mentioned, our school doesn't do a graduation or anything, but for his accomplishment, I want to treat him to something special. I am hoping to get his friend to be able to sleep over next Friday night and a treat and welcome to Summer vacation (Im going to do this for Merci too)...but I also have something else for my little Kindergartner!!

I have on of THESE to give to him after his last day of school!! I'm excited to give this to him, and hopefully he will share one of the surprises with his sister! Not only am I excited to give him this but I am also excited to be able to educated my kids on traditions of other countries! Can't wait to see what he thinks! Im sure he will want to keep the cool cone and fill it up with some of his toys or more likely since he is a boy, use it as a sword;)

This cool gift is a KinderCone, a big cone shaped box filled with little goodies for my boy! In Germany and Austria they call them Schultute's, They are given on the childrens first day of school in 1st grade!

I peeked!! Inside the Kindercone is a plush toy Karli, the main character in the journal that is also inside, to keep track of all the memories of 1st grade! There are also some pencils and temporary tattoos! I'm also going to add a few little things of my own!

What do you do to celebrate the end of the school year with your kids??

Clean teethers!

I still sing that darn Barney song "...Brush your teeth, chchchchch..." I bet you know exactly what song I mean! My kids are almost 6 and almost 10, and the song still plagues my thoughts nightly.

A week or so ago we got a Sonicare Kids toothbrush by Philips delivered to our home for the kids to try out.

I have never seen the kids so excited to brush their teeth.
Ethan immediately told me how he forgot to brush his teeth this morning...hoping to get a try right away! How could I say no??

I was extra excited because the toothbrush came with 2 different interchangeable heads, one for ages 4-6 and the other for ages 7-10, and I have 2 kids one in each age range! There is also a low and high setting, so both my kids can use it.

This morning I also noticed that the kids had changed the faceplate on the toothbrush (it come with 3!) I wonder how many times they have done this?? The plates are going to run out of stickiness pretty soon...hope we can replace these=)

They love the timer that beeps to let them know they have complete part of their time...the timer gradually increases the time to 2 minutes over a 3 month period...now that is smart!!

I am more confident that their teeth are a bit cleaner without my constant hovering and lecturing, and they feel more in control by listening for the timer! We have definitely noticed cleaner teeth in my daughters mouth, she has adult teeth and always had a hard time getting them really clean, my son has super clean baby teeth so we never had a problem with him.

Overall we have no problems with this toothbrush, we love it and will replace the heads as needed to ensure our kids a bit more excitement in caring for their teeth!

You can get yours at Walmart, Target or Amazon!

I can't believe we are just around the corner....

My daughter will be 10 in July. I can't believe I've been a mom for almost 10 years.

U.N.B.E.L.I.E.V.A.B.L.E.

But in being right around the corner, I'm actually referring to the not so wonderful thing us girls have to experience when we are teens or in some pre-teens.

Kotex is helping us parents turn this possibly embarrassing time in a young girls life to not such a big deal.

Check out this Kotex site sponsored by Walmart, there is a cool quiz (young girls love quizzes, you remember those teen magazine quizzes don't you?!), as well as an app for your iphone/itouch, free samples, fun graphics and more.

The U products are in bright fun colored packages, making it less embarrassing when it comes time to purchase them, and they made their products smaller and thinner making them more comfortable for all of us!

Remember to use open communication with your daughters about women's health to help them not feel so intimidated when it is time for them to experience this for the first time. Make it easier on both of you...and try U by Kotex!!

Hello LIGHTS

I recently got the opportunity to try out some of Sylvania SuperSaver Halogen light bulbs.
THEY ARE BRIGHT!!

Here are some cool facts:

*They are made in the US!!!
*Fully dimmable unlike the new CFLS
*Uses 22-33% less energy than incandescent light bulbs
*No Mercury
*Instant ON (no waiting for CFL's to warm up)

When I was opening the package and it said 43 Watt-I was confused...Id never heard of that before...but it is using less energy than the 65 Watt but using less energy...they were so bright we couldn't use 3 of these in out bathroom fixture without needing sunglasses...seriously.

I am definitely sold on the amount of light these babies put out, but not sure we will see an energy savings unless we switched the whole house to these kind of light bulbs.

We are impressed that they can be dimmed and would love to replace the ones in our basement and try these out, we end up having to unscrew the CFL's down there when watching a movie since there is too much light-since we forgot we couldn't dim CFL's but installed a 6 dimmable can lights=(

Check em out!

Another reason I HEART Pepsi

Not only does it taste MUCH better than Coke, but Pepsi also gives back!!

Pepsi has launched a new project called the Pepsi Refresh Program...as a way to give back.
The interesting thing about this program is that it involves YOU, YOUR FAMILY and YOUR IDEAS. If you have ever dreamed about giving back to your community but didn't know where to start...NOW is the chance. Anyone over the age of 13 can submit their idea and get a chance to earn a grant-they are giving away over $20 MILLION dollars in grants-to launch your idea!

One thing that I think is SUPER about this, is that Pepsi opted out of advertisement at the SuperBowl, so they could use their money more wisely and support meaningful social engagement...that right there makes me want to go buy LOTS of Pepsi=) Oh wait...I did buy 6 12 packs of Pepsi products today=)

STARTING TODAY FEBRUARY 1st...

monthly, you have the opportunity to submit a project in one of six categories:

1.)Health

2.)Arts & culture

3.)Food & shelter

4.)The planet

5.)Neighborhood or

6.)Education

http://www.refresheverything.com/

Then, at the end of the month, Pepsi will post the top submissions on their website and let YOU vote on who should win grants ranging from $5,000 to $250,000 (totaling up to $1.3 million dollars!)

GET involved...either submit an idea, or VOTE for someone elses!!!

This is such a great idea and I am proud to support Pepsi!

LIPS

If you live is a state that isn't so lucky to have nice weather right now...like...OHIO.
You probably are dealing with chapped lips right about now, but I guess if you live in a warm area you may be experiencing the same, from the sun.

Well...what about a night/day lip therapy to help with that??
Neosporin has one!! Check out the products HERE

I took the 3 day challenge and here is what I think:
*Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy is LOVELY. I love how nice my lips feel when I put this on, and in the morning it feels just as great!!
*
Lip Health Daily Hydration Therapy was not so lovely for my lips. You may have a different opinion. But I found it made my lips feel chapped all day . It may also be because I do not drink nearly enough water or didn't put it on enough, I'm not quite sure.

I would like to try the 3 day challenge again to see what happens.

I HIGHLY recommend the Overnight renewal Therapy, your lips will THANK YOU!!! Mine is waiting on my bed right now, and boy they can use a fingerful of that stuff=)

"I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Neosporin and received a sample of the Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy and the Lip Health Daily Hydration Therapy to facilitate my review and a $20 thank-you gift certificate."

Yummy Yum Gift

I always try to think of gifts for Christmas that won't just lay around and collect dust. I want a gift to be used, and liked. In getting older you realize if you want something you can just go get it for yourself (usually). It is when you get older you actually start asking for stuff you will use rather than stuff you WANT.

Do you know what I mean?

A trusted name is always good too. I do like to save $ and get the best deal, but sometimes the best deal is something that may cost a bit more but you KNOW is gonna be good!

We all see them popping up around the holidays at malls and in stores, so why not grab some for a friend or family member...I'm talking about Hickory Farms products and gift packs!

You can check out all they offer at www.hickoryfarms.com

You know what really sells me?? They make it easy to ship to military serving all around the world by shipping to APO/FPO addresses! How great is that?! If you know someone serving why not spread a little cheer to them and send some tasty treats.

Hickory Farms is ALWAYS good, all the sausages and cheeses I got to sample were wonderful...not to mention my favorite little strawberry hard candies...what a treat!
And I didn't have to wonder if they would be, I knew with a name like Hickory Farms I'd be happy!

It might not be an "exciting" gift but it will not lay around collecting dust, it will be eaten, I am sure of it!
And when they open the gift packs there eyes will be pleased too!

"I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Hickory Farms and received a Hickory Farms gift basket to facilitate my review."

:Fruit Loops::

I was never big on giving my kids sugary cereal. I tried to stay away from it, but then I decided it wasn't horrible to have "special" cereal every once in awhile. And now we get it a lot. I try to stay away from the "really bad" stuff and stick with the less offensive stuff like Honey Nut Cheerios, Fruity Cheerios, Frosted Mini Wheats etc. One day I read an article on the good and the bad cereals out there, and was very surprised that Froot Loops were a decent choice!! Of course the kids love them and I do too!! Cereal is our #1 pick in the mornings, so easy!

When I got the chance to review the NEW Froot Loops, I was excited...that they were trying even harder to make the cereal more nutritious and that Id get a few free boxes to try!

I was so excited to try the New Froot Loops with FIBER, that I ripped into both boxes one night before dinner;) We also go the opportunity to try the Apple Jacks with Fiber but didn't get to compare, but I am sure the story is the same!

The verdict in our house is that they are.....GOOD. The taste is VERY close. The crunch is a bit different and I actually like the Froot Loops with Fiber crunch BETTER. My son is too young to know any difference and my daughter (shes 9) said she tasted a difference, but I'm the mom and my mouth said they were very similar, so similar I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if the box wasn't in front of me.

Kudos to the cereal companies for striving to make the cereals we turn to on busy school mornings a bit better for our kids!

You can check out more about Froot Loops and Apple Jacks cereals with added Fiber here: http://www.kelloggsnutrition.com/

Thanks MOM CENTRAL for including me in this opportunity to taste and share about Kellogs Froot Loops & Apple Jacks!

It was a HIT

Last night was our trip to the Ringling Brothers circus. It was so much fun. The kids loved it, it keep Josh and I entertained, an all around score!

We got escorted into a party room where all the activators were gathered, we were handed bags of fun stuff for the kids, we were served a nice spread of foods, which was way more than anticipated, light refreshments is what it was supposed to be, but it was way more than that! And then we got to meet some clowns and the Ringmaster, Alex, himself! How fun is that?

I got to meet one blogger that I follow, Marcy from Stretching a Buck!! I won't tell you how I got talking to her and her family;) but I am glad I did. It is nice to have a face with the blog. I also got to meet Lauren from Mom Central.

It was a LONG, but Great night!

Our seat were great, 1st row in the club section (the overhang). BUT get this...Sarah...who won my free ticket giveaway, was in ROW 6...right down front! AWESOME!! I hope to have Disney on Ice tickets to give away in January, so Keep an ear out!!

The circus is here in Cleveland until the 25, so there is still time to get you $11 tickets (weekdays when you buy 4 or more) or $4 off weekend tickets.. by using code: MOM at TicketMaster.

The code MOM will work for most cities the circus will be in, NOT just Cleveland!

Thanks to Mom Central and FELD entertainemnt for a lovely evening!!

***UPDATED: Congrats Sarah R!!!***

Fall is officially here TODAY!

I celebrated with a shower before the kids got up, and a nice bike ride in this perfect weather.

I have so many favorite things about fall, crunchy leaves, cider, crisp apples, pumpkins, the smell in the air, the crisp nights, finding acorns, buckeyes and monkey ball in the metroparks.....and another one of the things we look forward to is the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus which comes to Cleveland every Fall
Usually in October.

(Check the local newspaper to see if you can catch the parade downtown when the circus arrives, the kids get to see the elephants walk in the streets...we have always missed it, but it is FREE!!)

We have gone 2 times now, and Josh and I enjoy it as much as the kids.
We will be going again this year!!!
